Appointment Of Provosts

THE COUNCIL of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, announces the Executive Search for dynamic and business-oriented persons with proven academic abilities to be appointed as PROVOSTS to the following Colleges of the University:





The Position

i.        The Provost is the Head of the College and shall be responsible for providing leadership to the College and for maintaining and promoting the efficiency and good governance of the College in accordance with policies and procedures prescribed by the Act, the Statutes or as may be determined from time to time by the College Board and the Academic Board.


ii.       The Provost shall be the Chairman of the College Board.


iii.      He shall, in consultation with Deans and Heads of Department, have the responsibility for the organization of postgraduate training as well as staff development in the College.


iv.      He shall liaise with industry, professional institutions, associations and similar bodies and organize consultative meetings of College members and industrial experts in the various professional fields within the College.


v.       He shall liaise with other Colleges/Faculties and take responsibility for the organization of common courses.


vi.      He shall coordinate the work of the Faculties and Departments within the College.


vii.     He shall consult with, and be assisted by, the Deans and the Heads of Department in the execution of his duties.


The Person


i.        Must be of Professorial status or equivalent grade in an analogous institution.


ii.       Must be a distinguished scholar with a capacity to motivate and direct staff.


iii.      Must exhibit a high sense of industry, leadership qualities and organizational skills and must be above reproach.


iv.      Must possess excellent communication and inter-personal skills and capacity to manage and control crisis situations.


v.       Must be visionary, business-oriented and able to establish rapport between industry and the University for common purpose.


vi.      Must be sober with maturity and drive for sound and impartial judgement.


vii.     Must be able to attract grants and funds for Research and Development activities for the School/Faculty.


viii.    Must be able to serve a full THREE-YEAR Term of Office before attaining the compulsory retiring age of SIXTY (60).


Terms of Appointment


i.        The Appointment, which is full-time, shall be for THREE (3) YEARS in the first instance and may be subject to renewal for another term of Three (3) Years, altogether making a maximum of Six (6) Years.  The Candidate may opt to be a Faculty Member after serving the Six-Year Term before attaining the statutory retiring age of 60.


ii.       The Successful Applicant shall be expected to assume duty by APRIL 2011.


iii.      Salary and fringe benefits attached to the post are attractive.
